Judge rules DOJ unlawfully fired Maurene Comey

A federal judge ruled that the Justice Department unlawfully fired Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York and the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey. Comey was abruptly terminated in July 2025 and sued the DOJ, claiming her dismissal was unlawful and linked to her father's status as a target of Donald Trump's ire. The ruling adds to concerns about politically motivated firings at the department.
